Welcome to my Blog
Welcome to my blog, my little space on the net where I can share what's going on in my musical life to those few who may be interested. I will treat this as sort of a personal journal where I can post ideas and experiences as Music Director for Our Lady of Las Vegas, pianist, composer, and Logic X user. It is my hope that a couple of people will be interested enough to banter a bit with me and share their experiences as well.
As summer draws to an end I would like to start by summing it up briefly. In June, I released "Under the Mojave Moon" which is my second piano-jazz-crossover album. I was happy that, although it seems to defy category, I received a lot of positive comments from program directors all over the world who curate Jazz stations. One called it "A masterpiece album", another wrote back that "This was the reason he got into the jazz format. Original and not formulaic" I see it's getting played in Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, India, Australia, Italy, Denmark, United States and others. I never saw that album as being very commercially viable; and that is something that I should probably think about more (according to my, producer, Jerry Marcellino) but it is, nevertheless gratifying to get a few positive kick-backs. Speaking of making music, I am looking forward to my 3rd album and I recently (two days ago) composed a piece that was inspired by Ravel. After Jerry Marcellino heard it, he said...and I quote...."I think you've lost your mind!" I was hoping to use this space to post sound samples but I'm not sure it is possible, except for videos.
I also spent the summer composing and recording movie cues for....(I'm not suppose to say yet_) and it would be fun to post little bits of those for comment.....As I mentioned I use Logic ProX and have a lot of interest in computer-based scoring....would love to talk to other composers about methods, sound libraries, systems....etc.....
Talk to you soon!
